Matthew writes down scenes and teachings of Jesus that, among other things, show us that God wants to help: “And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Matthew 6:30 NLT.
“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:11 NLT.
Jesus also teaches us to trust and seek God: “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:31-33 NLT.
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 NLT.
Jesus follows up with his own words and actions of helping others: “Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.” Matthew 8:2-3 NLT.
“When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” … Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour.” Matthew 8:5-7, 13 NLT.
“That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”” Matthew 8:16-17 NLT
Reflection and Encouragement
God wants to help. He invites us to come to him. Jesus lived this out with saying he is willing, he will come, heal and help people who come to him for help.
This is God’s invitation to us today. Seek him and see his willingness to help in all matters concerning our lives. What he does is nothing short of miraculous.
Prayer
Dear Father God,
Thank you for making it so clear of your willingness to help.
Thank you for inviting us to seek and pursue you.
We humbly come asking for your help.
In your name, Jesus, we pray,
Amen
